What is the Safe & Open Pledge?

Safe & Open represents a promise that businesses, organizations, and individuals can make to show their commitment to fighting the spread of the coronavirus in Manhattan and the Flint Hills Region. It can also be used as a tool to guide residents and visitors to businesses that are following best practices.

When people see the Safe & Open logo, they will know those businesses and organizations have made a commitment to help protect the community.

When business owners sign the pledge, they are given marketing materials to display in their business, a digital badge for their website, digital frame for social media pages, and their logo will be added to the Safe & Open website business directory.

People can also show support by signing the individual pledge to declare their personal commitment to safety practices. After you sign, you will receive a sticker (and other marketing materials) to show your support and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same.

  • Adhere to all Federal, State, and Local mandates

  • Follow industry-specific guidelines

  • Create transmission barriers to help protect employees, volunteers, and customers where appropriate:

    • Use personal protective equipment correctly

    • Install physical barriers where appropriate

  • Encourage physical distancing

  • Limit the number of people allowed inside to make it possible to maintain 6-ft of distance

  • Arrange workspaces so employees can stay at least 6-ft apart

  • Limit staff contact with customers

  • Adopt and implement enhanced cleaning and sanitation procedures specifically designed to combat the transmission of COVID-19

    • Encourage frequent hand washing for staff

  • Promote health screening

    • Adopt health screening procedures that require employees to monitor their health, not report to work if ill and/or showing symptoms of COVID-19, and self-isolate if showing symptoms, awaiting test results, or diagnosed with COVID-19

  • Communicate

    • Educate employees about requirements, and make sure rules are followed

    • Make ourselves available to speak with you directly about any questions or concerns you might have
